Surgery

Should your pet need surgery, our doctors offer the knowledge, skills and experience to perform many advanced surgical procedures safely and effectively.

We perform all surgeries under sterile conditions to help prevent infections. We use the safest anesthetics available and monitor patients’ heart function and respiration throughout all surgical procedures.

If your pet requires any type of surgery or is to be placed under anesthesia for dental work, please keep these important points in mind—

  • Except in emergencies, all surgeries must be scheduled in advance. Please call during our regular office hours for an appointment.
  • If your pet is to be put under anesthesia, its stomach must be empty. The day before surgery, do not feed your pet any food (including treats) or allow it to drink any water after 12:00 midnight.
  • Your pet may need to spend at least one night in the hospital following surgery. During your pet’s hospital stay, we monitor its recovery from anesthesia the day of the surgery and examine it the following day to make sure it’s safe to send your pet home.
  • When you arrive home with your pet, wait an hour or two before offering food or water. Most pets are excited to be home and may get an upset stomach from eating or drinking too much if given the chance as soon as they get home.
